Bring Your Family Memories to the Table This Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is about connection — sharing food, stories, and gratitude with the people who matter most. This year, why not make a family photo sorting project part of the celebration?
Those boxes of old photos tucked away in closets hold precious memories! Taking time to go through them together can spark laughter, conversation, and nostalgia — and help younger generations connect with their roots.
After your family shares a meal, invite them to share memories, laughter, and the joy of rediscovery as you work together to sort and label your pictures.
Why it Matters
When families look through photos together, they don’t just organize pictures — they rediscover stories. It is sure to prompt conversations that bring deeper connection
Grandparents recall moments long past, parents fill in the details, and kids learn where they come from. Together, you can decide which photos best tell your story to scan and preserve for the future.
A few ways to make it fun and meaningful:
🦃 Make it part of your gathering. Spread the photos out on the (clean) dining table during a quiet evening together or while watching football. No drinks on the table with the photos! Have everyone wash their hands before handling the snapshots and dirt and oils can damage pictures.
💬 Capture stories as you go. Jot notes on sticky tabs added to the back of pictures or record short voice clips as relatives share memories. Or use a soft Stabilo pencil that is photo safe.
🌟 Choose favorites together. Let everyone pick the photos that make them smile — those are often the most meaningful to preserve. Set these aside in a special box to be scanned and preserved.
Need a Little Help Getting Started?
If you’d like a little extra guidance, I offer Snapshots & Stories Sessions — in-home sessions where I bring tools, structure, and expertise to help your family sort, preserve, and reconnect through your photos. I’ll show you how to use tools to safely remove pictures from albums, explain the ABC’S of photo organizing, and make the process enjoyable for everyone.
This Thanksgiving, don’t just pass the pie — pass down your stories.
